Wanax

Wanax refers to the ruler of a Mycenaean palace which was involved in religious, military and economic power in the late 13th century BCE.


Pentakosiomedimnoi

Pentakosiomedimnoi were members of the upper classes in Athens which were important for taxation and dowries of heiresses. The origins this may have been from Solon who added them to existing groups which were formalised by financial grading.The minimum for this was an estate worth 500 units of agrarian produce like oil, wine and grain.


hoplites

Heavy Greek infantry and were the dominant military arm in Greece from the 7th century. They intended to come from the middle class as Greek government would not issue equipment to their soldiers so the middle class were able to afford armour and swords.
